Landscapes have been the central focus of my 40-year artistic career. My paintings are in private collections in numerous states and several countries.
I try to convey a sense of the physical structure of landscapes, both grand and quantum, in the choice of compositions and in the application of paint. Light and atmosphere are fundamental in landscape painting, but there is also embedded energy present in the subjects themselves. We experience an involuntary attraction and reaction to various landscapes. I am guided to subjects by our emotional connections to our physical environment and speculate on why those shared connections exist.
My commissioned paleo-environmental landscapes are on permanent display in natural history museums in the U.S.and reproductions of them are displayed internationally and in books on geologic history. In addition, I have provided illustrations for geologists and biologists publishing journal articles and textbooks.
